Payard Patisserie & Bistro established in August of 1997 has provided New Yorker’s not only with their favorite European sweet and savory delights, but also an intimate and elegant dining room. François, a passionate third generation pâtissier has filled the shop and dining area with a sumptuous array of confections. It is situated in the heart of the Upper East Side at 1032 Lexington Avenue (between 73rd and 74th Street). The pastry shop and bistro is open Monday - Saturday from breakfast through dinner.
The pastry shop and gourmet counters offers signature cakes, pastries, home-made ice creams, chocolates and petit fours that taste every bit as delicious as they look. Savory selections include items such as terrine de foie gras, sandwiches, canapés and prepared foods. Custom gift baskets, picnic boxes and special occasion cakes are also available.

The Bistro’s chef is Philippe Bertineau, formerly of Park Bistro in Manhattan and Restaurant Daniel’s Sous-Chef for four years. The contemporary French bistro menu features updated classics drawn from regional French cuisine, while daily market specials highlight the chef’s use of local seasonal produce. For lunch appetizers range from $6 to $12, main courses $19 to $22. Dinner appetizers are from $9 to $15, main courses $19 to $25 and an offering of daily market specials.

David Rockwell, the visionary restaurant architect, has created a facade of cherry wood framed windows to showcase the tempting selection of cakes and pastries that beckons from within. The pastry shop’s interior is warmed by butter cream colors and tiles adorned with confectionery treats. The sinuous coffee and liquor bar separates the pastry shop from the dining area. Above, lies a cozy balustrade mezzanine overlooking the dining room. Here an intimate banquet-lined room is adorned with Belle-Époque framed mirrors.
Whether for a café breakfast, a bistro lunch, afternoon tea or dinner with family and friends, we hope to continue to make Payard a pleasant gourmet’s Upper East Side rendezvous full of sweet times, romance and fun.
